An unusual type of pilonidal sinus

Summary and Conclusions

Pilonidal sinuses are common and problems of these infected sinuses are well known. Rarely does one encounter pilonidal disease that deviates from the usual.

Observations on the presentation and the pathogenesis of pilonidal sinuses have been discussed. Unusual and rare sites of pilonidal sinuses have been reported.

An unusual infected pilonidal sinus, with multiple perineal openings into a fistulous tract which extended laterally to the anus and to the anterior perineum, has been described. The tract contained many strands of black hair.

Problems of differential diagnosis, treatment and proper postoperative care have been discussed.
