Polyp of the colon possessing features of colitis cystica profunda

Summary

Submucosal glands have been observed in a polyp of the colon. Histologically, the submucosal pattern was similar to that of colitis cystica profunda and inverted hamartomatous polyps. The major problem in this type of lesion is differentiating it from adenocarcinoma. Histologic criteria are reviewed which provide the correct diagnosis.
