Summary
A case of leiomyoma in an elderly patient is reported because of its rare occurrence in the rectum and its persistent benign character. Early diagnosis and surgical eradication of a leiomyoma are advisable. Removal of the tumor through a posterior proctotomy is recommended.
There has been no recurrence of the tumor after more than three years.
