Abstract
The causes of certain types of explosions are known and understood. But what of the explosions that occur when molten materials come in contact with water? Are they caused by a mechnical reaction or a chemical reaction? Using an explosion that took place in a foundry as an example, the author explains the phenomenon as a mechanical reaction.
