Conclusion

Wide excision of pilonidal disease, allowing the wound to heal by granulation, has been utilized with excellent results in 175 patients. This procedure offers the following advantages: 1) It is suitable for all patients (sinus, cyst or abscess; primary or recurrent). 2) It shortens the hospital stay and reduces the number of sick day. 3) It permits early ambulation of the patients and their return to normal activity. 4) It minimizes the possibility of recurrence.
