A search for high-energy cosmic gamma-ray bursts

Summary

A search has been made for excesses of cosmic-ray counting rates at primary energiesE 01>5 GeV andE 04>2·104 GeV over the time scalet=(1÷100) ms. The measurement was performed by means of a small extensive air shower array operating at mountain altitude (3500 m a.s.l.). During the running time 111 cosmic gamma-ray bursts were detected by satellites; 10 of them certainly (55 probably) above the horizon of the detector. No significant counting rate excess has been recorded out of the statistical fluctuations. Also the search for correlations with satellite events has given a negative result. The upper limit for high-energy cosmic gamma-ray flux in bursts isϕ 1(E>E 01)<4·10−5 (t = time scale in ms),ϕ 4(E>E 04)<1.6·10−5erg/cm2.

Si presentano i risultati di una ricerca di eccessi nei conteggi dei raggi cosmici alle energie primarieE 01>5 GeV edE 04>2·104 GeV su tempi scalat=(1÷100) ms. La misura è stata eseguita per mezzo di un apparato sciami di piccole dimensioni operante in quota (3500 m s.l.m.). Durante la misura sono stati rivelati da satellite 111 esplosioni di gamma cosmici, 10 di questi certamente (55 probabilmente) al di sopra dell'orizzonte del rivelatore. Non si è rivelato alcun eccesso nelle frequenze di conteggio al di fuori delle fluttuazioni statistiche. Anche la ricerca di correlazioni con gli eventi rivelati da satellite ha dato esito negativo. I limiti superiori ottenuti al flusso di raggi gamma in bursts sonoϕ 1(E>E 01)<4·105·t 0.36 erg/cm2 (t = scala temporale in ms),ϕ 4(E>E 04)<1.6·10−5 erg.cm2.

Были проведены поиски вспышей интенсивностей космических лучей с первичными энергиямиE 01>5 ГэВ иE 04>2·104 ГэВ во всей временной шкалеt=(1÷100) мс. Измерения проводились с помощью небольшой системы для регистрации широких атмосферных ливней, расположенной на высоте 3500 м. С помощью спутников было зарегистрировано 111 вспышек космических лучей; 10 из них определенно (а 55 вероятно) выше горизонта детектора. Не было обнаружено существенных отклонений, превышающих статистические флуктуации. Поиски корреляций для событий, зарегистрированных спутниками, дали отрицательный результат. Верхний предел для потока космических гамма-лучей высокой энергии в вспышках составляет:ϕ 1(E>E 01)<4·10−5 t 0.36 (время в мс),ϕ 4(E>E 04)<1.6·10−5 Эрг/см2.
