A case of acute colitis as the initial manifestation of the hemolytic-uremic syndrome in an 8-year-old boy is described. The incidence, significance, and therapeutic implications of gastrointestinal tract complications in this disorder, which may simulate infectious or inflammatory bowel disease, are discussed.
