Summary
The number of new femoral neck fractures in Finland doubled between 1970 and 1985. This is a result of the progressive increase in the age of the population as well as of an increase in incidence rates. The former factor predominated in women, while the latter was more characteristic among men. The increase in incidence rates seemed to be based on a cohort effect.
