Loop colostomy—Barversus rod

Summary

A flat plastic bar can be used to exteriorize bowel in a loop colostomy. With it, the colostomy can be opened at the time of operation and a bag applied immediately. Early function occurs, fecal diversion is improved, and fecal soilage of the abdominal skin is eliminated.
