Abstract
The effect of hormonal manipulation on the mammary tumor growth and on its histological changes were studied using DMBA-induced mammary tumor in rats. Ovariectomy resulted in regression of 83 per cent of the mammary tumors examined but most of the tumors regressed began to grow again after 7 to 8 weeks. The administration of androgen had inhibitory effect on the growth in 75 per cent of the tumors. The histology of the growing tumors before ovariectomy exhibited either a poorly differenciated or a tubulopapillary carcinoma. Histological features changed to atrophic cystic epithelium by ovariectomy and regrowing tumors following the post-ovariectomy remission tended to show reversion to primary features.
