Summary

  1. 1.

The structure of theGolgi apparatus in the cells (or fibres) of cardiac muscle has been examined by means of theDa Fano andKolatschew techniques.

  2. 2.

The findings ofLuna, that theGolgi apparatus of fully developed cardiac muscle fibres consists of two bipolar filaments situated in the long axis of the fibre, has been confirmed.

  3. 3.

The development of theGolgi apparatus from the primitive mesodermal juxta-nuclear form to the final bipolarised structure has been traced.

  4. 4.

It has been suggested that the fragmentation of theGolgi apparatus into its two portions is effected by the stretching of the cell.

  5. 5.

No connection has been found to exist between theGolgi apparatus and theCajal-Fusari network.

  6. 6.

The neutral red bodies have been desribed, and have been found to be entirely distinct from theGolgi apparatus.
