Opacification of the renal parenchyma in obstruction and reflux

Abstract

The several patterns of radiographic opacification of the renal parenchyma in urinary tract obstruction and vesico-ureteric reflux are described. Recent descriptions of the detailed morphology of the renal papilla suggest explanations for these appearances. The mechanisms involved and their possible significance are discussed.
