Die Geschwülste des Mediastinums im Kindesalter

Summary

From the literature 1169 tumors of the mediastinum in infants and children were collected and 22 own cases added (Tab.1). Table 1 demonstrates the dependence of tumor nature and localisation. 34.2% of these tumors were malignant. X-ray examinations of the chest ist the most important feature. The author prefers the thoracotomy during the first 24–48 hours following diagnosis of the tumor. The differentialdiagnosis of these tumors is discussed and completed by some own observations. With regard to the fact, that in the statistics of letality in children dying of malignant tumors is in second place a special registration center is demanded, in order to give to all collegues a communication of the actual therapy of choice.
