Summary
During dark adaptation, 22 patients with juvenile type of macular degeneration and 43 with the senile type were examined with clinical electroretinography using anHenkes electrode, a Xenon-flash and an electroencephalograph. The b-wave amplitude and the ratiob 1/b 2 were statistically calculated after arranging the material into several groups. A statistically significant reduction of theb-wave amplitude was found in all patients with macular degeneration compared with those in our normal patients. The reduction was correlated neither with the severity of fundus alterations nor with the degree of loss of visual acuity. A selective diminution of the photopicb-wave in patients with juvenile macular degeneration was found with long-wave light stimulation. These results are in good agreement with those reported elsewhere.
