Summary
An investigation was carried out to study whether differences in rooting depth, root weight and vertical distribution of roots in the soil were some of the factors responsible for clonal variation in drought resistance in tea. The results showed that of these factors only rooting depth influenced drought resistance. Shallow rooted clones were drought susceptible and deep rooted clones drought resistant. In shallow rooted clones drought resistance increased with rooting depth. However in deep rooted clones drought resistance was not related to rooting depth.
