Summary
Commercial formulations ofB. thuringiensis differ from most chemical insecticides by their specificity of action and their safety towards vertebrates and useful entomofaune, making them very safe for the environment.
These bacterial formulations are indicated by their name, the strain used (serotype) and the biological titre obtained with a definite species of insect test. These indications give valuable informations about the nature and quality of these selective products, but don't point out their efficiency against an insect. For choosing the most adapted formulation to be used for biological control of an insect pest it is necessary to refer in any case to the list of specification of employment and to follow scrupulously the dose and the method of using indicated.
