Summary

The results are presented of a ten-year research programme on the helminth parasites of beef cattle raised in the extensive cerrado region of central-east Brazil. The most important helminths are Cooperiaspp., Haemonchusspp. (80% H. similis), Trichostrongylusspp. and Oesophagostomum radiatum.Both production and infection are dominated by the alternation of rainy and dry seasons. Attempts to develop and implement control measures and their limitations are discussed.

Résumé

On présente les résultats d'un programme de recherches de 10 ans sur les heminthes parasites des bovins de boucherie élevés dans la région d'élevage extensif du Cerrado dans le centre-est du Brésil. Les helminthes les plus importantes sontCooperia sp.,Haemonchus sp. (80 p.centd'H. similis),Trichostrongilus sp. etOesophagostomum radiatum. La production et l'infestation sont dominées par l'alternance des saisons sèches et pluvieuses. Les essais de mise en place et de mise en pratique de mesures de contrôles et leurs limites sont discutés.

Resumen

Se presentan los resultados de un estudio de diez años de duración, sobre la infestación helmíntica de ganado para la producción de carne en la región del Cerrado brasilero, localizada en la zona centro-oriental del país. Los parásitos más importantes encontrados fueronCooperia spp.,Haemonchus spp. (80 por cientoH. similis),Trichostrongylus spp. yOesophagostomum radiatum. Tanto la producción como la infección se encuentran dominadas por la alternación entre la estación iluviosa y seca. Se discuten las medidas para implementar programas de control.
