Summary

Some details are given of a 2 1/2 year study on traditionally managed settled White Fulani cattle herds on the Jos plateau in Nigeria. Observations are included on herd size, herd structure, seasonal calving and reproductive performance. The relationship between herd structure and reproductive performance is discussed.

Quelques détails sont donnés sur une étude ayant duré deux ans et demi, concernant la gestion traditionnelle de troupeaux de bétail blanc Fulani sur le plateau de Jos, au Nigeria. Les relations existant entre la structure des troupeaux et leur reproductivité sont discutées.

Resumen

Se reseñan los resultados de un estudio de dos años y medio de duración, sobre ganado Blanco Fulani en la meseta de Jos en Nigeria. Los animales estuvieron bajo manejo tradicional. Se incluyen observaciones sobre el tamaño de los hatos, estructura de los mismos, pariciones estacionales y eficiencia reproductiva. Se discute la relación entre estructura de los hatos y eficiencia reproductiva.
