Summary
Breeding of the tickHyalomma anatolicum anatolicum was established at the laboratory. On two occasionsTheileria hirci was transmitted to intact clean sheep by adults of the tickHyalomma anatolicum anatolicum which had been infected at the nymphal stage. An attempt to transmit the parasite by nymphae, which had fed on a carrier sheep at the larval stage, failed but when these nymphs developed to adults they were able to transmit the parasite. The incubation period of malignant sheep theileriosis, caused by 11 to 15 ticks infestation, was found to be about 12 days.
