Summary

The rare finding of hepatoma in the absence of cirrhosis in an adult was of particular interest as gynecomastia developed 6 months before the tumor was found and disappeared soon after surgical removal of the hepatoma. This and other evidence that gynecomastia may be a sign of hepatoma and the possibility that it results from the production of a substance with endocrine activity by hepatic tissue are discussed.
