Abstract
Non-local effects in extended thermodynamics can be introduced via an entropy density dependent on spatial derivatives of heat fluxq and viscous pressure. One requires that the time-evolution equation for ∇2 q be calculable from the evolution equation forq, and similarly for pressure. One finds that Cattaneo-Vernotte and Maxwell equations have divergence terms added that violate reciprocity, causing local and non-local models to differ. Coupling between the relaxation ofq and pressure drops out to the order considered.
