Zusammenfassung
Aktuelle Strömungsmessungen, statistische Angaben auf Grund historischer Daten sowie Modellergebnisse werden verwendet, um die mittlere Zirkulation in der Deutschen Bucht im August/September 1979 zu beschreiben.
Die mittlere Strömung setzt während dieses Zeitraumes bei im Durchschnitt schwachen südwestlichen Winden überwiegend nach Norden. In Bodennähe ergeben die subjektive Analyse der Messungen sowie das Modell einen topographisch bedingten schwachen Wirbel südlich von Helgoland. Querzirkulationen im Zusammenhang mit Dichte- und Gefällströmungen scheinen die Wirbelbildung zu fördern.
Summary
Actual current measurements, statistics from historical data and the results of a numerical model are used to describe the residual currents in the German Bight in August/September 1979 during the international field programme MARSEN (MarineRemoteSensingEexperiment in theNorth Sea).
During this period of predominantly weak southwesterly winds over the German Bight northward currents are prevailing. The subjective analysis of the measurements as well as the model yield a weak quasi-stationary, mainly topographically induced gyre of the currents at depth south of the island Helgoland. The formation and maintenance of the gyre appears to be favoured by cross-circulations associated with currents due to horizontal density gradients and slopes of the sea surface along the coasts.
Résumé
Des mesures de courant actuelles, des statistiques établies à partir de données historiques et les résultats d'un modèle numérique sont utilisés pour décrire les courants résiduels dans la Baie Allemande en août/septembre 1979 durant le programme de la campagne internationale MARSEN (MarineRemoteSensingExperiment in theNorth Sea).
Durant cette période qui voit des vents de Sud-Ouest de faible intensité régner sur la Baie Allemande, les courants portant au Nord dominent. L'analyse subjective des measures ainsi que le modèle donnent un tourbillon faible et quasi-stationnaire des courants en profondeur au Sud de l'île d'Helgoland, induit pricipalement par la topographie. Formation et maintien du tourbillon semblen favorisés par des circulations croisées associées à des courants provoqués par des gradients horizontaux de densité et des pentes de la surface de l'eau le long des côtes.
