The status ofColobus polykomos dollmani Schwarz

Abstract

The two West African black-and-white colobus taxa,Colobus polykomos andC. vellerosus, are distinct species. A supposedly intermediate subspecies,C. polykomos dollmani, is actually a hybrid swarm, in whichC. vellerosus genes greatly predominate. We propose a hypothesis to explain this situation.
