Summary

The effect of 17-hydroxy-11-dehydrocorticosterone (Cortisone), 11-desoxycorticosterone (DCA), 21-acetoxy-pregnenolone (Artisone) on experimental Coccidioidal granuloma of the Rat has been investigated.

While in controls, in DCA- and Artisone-treated animals the infection remained localized, 3 out of 5 Cortisone-treated rats presented a diffusion of the pathological process to the spleen and the lungs. Histologically: in the control animals there was a profuse growth of all elements of new connective tissue; in the DCA-and Artisone-treated rats a slight reduction of connective elements was observed; in Cortisone-treated rats the production of connective elements was strongly inhibited.
