Orientierende Untersuchungen über das Vorkommen 2-Mercaptoäthanol-empfindlicher und -resistenter Toxoplasma-Antikörper beim Menschen

Summary

• 1. One hundred and forty-three sera (65 originated from children, out of which 52 from new-born, 78 from adults) which had proved negative in the complement fixation test (CFT) for Toxoplasma gondii, however, positive (low titers) in the dye test, the titers ranging from 1∶16 to 1∶1000, were examined for their sensitivity to 2-mercaptoethanol (2 ME). The following different antibody relations could be demonstrated:

• a) 2-ME-sensitive antibodies (19 S)

• b) unchanged antibody titer (pure or prevailing 7 S)

• c) 2-ME-sensitive (19 S) and -resistant (7 S) antibodies in different relations.

  Twenty-one % of the new-born-sera contained 2-ME-sensitive antibodies, whereas the percentage in the sera of adults was only 9%. The titer values of 62% of the new-born-sera could not be changed by 2-ME, of the adult sera only in 36%.

• 2. The same antibody relationship as described under a), b), and c) was observed in one hundred sera (15 children, 85 adults) positive in CFT and showing high titers in the dye test (1∶4000, 1∶16000, 1∶64000, 1∶260000) following treatment with 2-ME.

The above findings are of random cases and cannot be assigned so far to distinct stages within the course of the infection. For this purpose further studies considering the complete antibody curve from the beginning to the end of the infection will be necessary.

Zusammenfassung

• 1. 143 Seren (65 Kinder, davon 52 Säuglinge, 78 Erwachsene) mit SFT-Titerwerten zwischen 1∶16 und 1∶1000 bei gleichzeitig negativer KBR wurden auf ihre Empfindlichkeit gegenüber 2-Mä untersucht. Folgende verschiedene Antikörper-Verhältnisse wurden in den einzelnen Seren nachgewiesen:

• a) nur 2-Mä-empfindliche Antikörper (19 S-AK),

• b) unveränderte Antikörper-Titerwerte (reine oder überwiegend 7 S-AK),

• c) 2-Mä-empfindliche (19 S-AK) und -resistente Antikörper (7 S-AK) in verschiedenem Mengenverhältnis.

  21% der Säuglingsseren enthielten nur 2-Mä-empflndliche Antikörper, im Gegensatz dazu die Seren der Erwachsenen nur in 9% der Fälle; bei 62% der Säuglingsseren war der Antikörper-Titerwert nach Behandlung mit 2-Mä unverändert, bei Seren von Erwachsenen nur in 36% der Fälle.

• 2. 100 Seren (15 Kinder, 85 Erwachsene) mit den SFT-Antikörper-Titerstufen 1∶4000, 1∶16000, 1∶64000 und 1∶260000 bei gleichzeitig positiver KBR boten nach Behandlung mit 2-Mä ebenso variable Kombinationen aus 2-Mä-empflndlichen und-resistenten Antikörpern wie die Seren unter 1.)
