Die Analyse der mitotischen Chromosomen beiCynomys ludovicianus ergibt die diploide Zahl 50 und einen Karyotypen mit nur metazentrischen und submetazentrischen Autosomen. Der FallCynomys ist einzigartig unter den Sciuridae: hohe 2n Zahl und Fehlen acrozentrischer Chromosomen.
