The determinants of the rate of change of the left ventricular pressure (dp/dt)

Summary

The determining factors of the rate of change of the left ventricular pressure (dp/dt) have been investigated.

It was found that the maximum rate of change of pressure is determined

  1. a)

    by the force of contraction of the contractile elements

  2. b)

    by the enddiastolic dimensions of the ventricle and

  3. c)

    by the propagation velocity of the depolarization wave.
