Abstract

The effect of physical exertion and intentional hyperventilation on the bronchial motoricity, with and without previous inhalation of SCG, was investigated in 10 patients with chronic bronchial asthma and in 10 persons with normal lungs. Bronchoconstriction induced by exertion and hyperventilation was significantly reduced in the asthmatics after previous inhalation of SCG, while no measurable constriction at all could be found in the persons with normal lungs after the same procedure.

The possible sites of action of SCG, on the reflectory mechanisms which lead to a change in the bronchotonus, are discussed.
