Summary
The intravenous injection of a horse-anti-dog-lymphocyte serum diminishes circulating lymphocytes, granulocytes, monocytes, and thrombocytes in the test animal. The lymphocytes recover slower than the other cells. An isolated, pronounced and long lasting lymphocytopenia can be obtained by repeated daily injections of a proper dose of immunserum. There is no loss of activity even in long-term treatment of animals. Injection of normal horse serum in the same dosage is followed by alterations of granulocytes and lymphocytes as a consequence of sensitization, but lymphocytopenia does not develop.
