Summary
For testing immunosuppressive agents in dogs the heart of a donor is heterotopically transplanted into the abdomen of a recipient. The operative technique is described in detail. Simultaneously measured pressure and flow to the transplant and their alterations while injecting cardiologically important drugs are discussed. In chronic experiments the time of a rejection crisis will be determined early by a number of parameters: blood pressure, coronary flow, change in myocardial contractility and alterations in certain enzyme systems in the blood.
