Abstract
The paper builds on two criticisms of traditional models of innovation diffusion, namely that they (a) consider the adoption process as one of information diffusion and neglect the elements of profitability and adjustment cost which both have a precise spatial dimension, and (b) consider the single innovation as a static item defined ex-ante, while it should be handled as adynamic process, continuously changing in its nature and quality along with its diffusion. The process may be described better by a system of two differential equations representing an intersectoral and an intrasectoral logistic diffusion.
