Nach 22stündiger Inkubation von Weizenkoleoptilzylinder in Indol-3-essigsäure treten im Gewebe konzentrationsabhängig auf: Indol-3-acetamid, vermutlich 2-Hydroxy-indol-3-acetamid und Indol-3-glyoxylsäure, Indol-3-essigsäure, 2-Hydroxy-indol-3-essigsäure, Indol-3-carbonsäure und Indol-3-acetylasparaginsäure.

Malonyltryptophan ist in den Weizenkoleoptilzylindern enthalten und verändert seine Konzentration während der Versuche nicht. Seine Bedeutung ist unbekannt.

Nach Inkubation in Indol-3-essigsäure und in Indol-3-acetylasparaginsäure wurde der Gehalt an Indol-3-essigsäure und Indol-3-acetylasparaginsäure vor und nach n NaOH-Hydrolyse spektrophotometrisch gemessen.

Die stärkste Bildung von Indol-3-acetylasparaginsäure nach Indol-3-essigsäure-Inkubation wurde knapp unterhalb der bereits toxisch wirkenden Indol-3-essigsäure-Konzentration erhalten. Nach Indol-3-essigsäure-Inkubation ließen sich durch n NaOH-Hydrolyse relativ große Mengen ätherunlöslicher, Indol-3-essigsäure enthaltender Substanzen nachweisen. Dabei muß es sich um estergebundene Indol-3-essigsäure handeln.

Indol-3-acetylasparaginsäure-Inkubationen bewirken nur Wachstumsförderung.

Nach Indol-3-acetylasparaginsäure-Inkubationen in niederen und mittleren Konzentrationsstufen ist keine IES nachweisbar; bei den höchsten Konzentrationen treten nur Spuren davon auf.

Es werden zwei Möglichkeiten der Bedeutung der Indol-3-acetylasparaginsäure-Bildung diskutiert: a) eine Entgiftungsreaktion und Regulation des Indol-3-essigsäure-abhängigen Wachstums, b) eine direkte Wirkung auf das Wachstum, wobei der ersten Deutung der Vorrang gegeben wird.

Die Hemmwirkung überhoher Indol-3-essigsäure-Konzentrationen wird als Begleiterscheinung der Entgiftungsreaktion gedeutet: a) Energiedefizit, b) Co-Enzym-A-Blockierung.
