Summary
The development of the conducting system was studied in serial sections of seven human embryos of 8 mm, 15 mm, 18 mm, 19 mm, 19,5 mm, 25 mm and 28 mm lengths. Special attention was paid to the histogenesis of the A-V node. It could be concluded that the sinus node arises from the musculature of the right sinus horn and the bundle ofHis probably from the posterior musculatur of the A-V canal.
The anlage of the A-V node was demonstrated in the 15 mm long embryo at the bottom of the septum primum as well as at the inferior margin of the valvula venosa dextra and above the posterior endocardial cushion. The continuity of the A-V node anlage with the wall of the coronary sinus could be clearly shown. This continuity was present also in the older Embryos. According to this findings the A-V node originates from the wall of the coronary sinus. The A-V node and the sinus node seem to be homologeous structures.
