Summary
The microscope-photometer with variable measuring diaphragm (MPV) is used for the automatic counting of silver grains in quantitative autoradiography, and is tested as to its possibilities and limits. Measuring was considerably faster than visual counting and its error limit is lower with approximately 6%. It is possible to measure individual cells, which, however, must not lie too close each other. But measuring of nucleoli in labelled nuclei harbours considerable sources of error due to the action of the Schwarzschild-Villiger effect.
