Postoperative liver insufficiency: Prevention and management

Abstract

Postoperative hepatic insufficiency is a rare cause of liver failure. Consequences of this usually predictable complication can be limited by appropriate preventive measures and careful postoperative management. This report reviews the current experimental and clinical literature with regard to postoperative hepatic insufficiency.

Résumé

L'insuffisance hépatique aiguë postopératoire est relativement rare. Les conséquences de cette complication sont généralement prévisibles. Elles peuvent de ce fait être limitées par des mesures preventives adéquates et par un traitement postopératoire attentif. A propos de cet article, les auteurs passent en revue la littérature concernant les données expérimentales et cliniques qui s'appliquent à l'insuffisance hépatique postopératoire.

Resumen

La insuficiencia hepática postoperatoria es una causa rara de falla del hígado. Las consecuencias de esta usualmente predecible complicación pueden ser restringidas mediante medidas preventivas apropiadas y un cuidadoso manejo postoperatorio. Este reporte revisa la literatura experimental y clínica actual en relatión con la insuficiencia hepática postoperatoria.
