Parenchymal cell mass determination in parathyroid glands and its application in a material of hyperparathyroidism

Abstract

Parencbymal cell mass determination with a density gradient technique was used as a supplement to the histological examination of parathyroid glands in a series of patients operated on for hyperparathyroidism. The parenchymal cell mass was easily determined intraoperatively and constituted an objective parameter in the differentiation between normal and abnormal parathyroid glands. It is suggested that such objective determinations of the parenchymal cell mass should be considered in parathyroid histological diagnosis.
