Summary
In contrast to the results of earlier studies carried out under natural photoperiodic conditions, testosterone treatment induced eccentric primary moult in male European Starlings kept in constant conditions (LD 12 : 12). These results are in line with the field data compiled byEvans (1986), and demonstrate, that skipping the first primaries in the sequence is one of several strategies to compensate for a delay of the onset of postnuptial moult in continental starling populations.
