Zusammenfassung
Summary
1. The frequency of courtship song in male Zebra Finches falls away to zero following castration, but increases again with testosterone injections. Individual variations are discussed.
2. The frequency of „solitary song“ drops after castration, increasing again with testosterone injections.
3. The dependence of solitary song on the sex hormones is thus demonstrated.
4. After castration of male Zebra Finches all courtship patterns disappear. With testosterone treatment they can be successively re-induced according to their threshold levels.
5. The significance of solitary song in sexual behaviour is discussed.
