Summary
In nine plots, 9 ha each, representing a vegetation structure gradient from open heathland to pine forest, breeding birds were censused from April to June, and weather conditions were recorded. Overnight minimum temperature did not significantly influence the census results. Date positively influenced the number of species and abundance in the simplest structured plots and was negatively correlated with the number of species and abundance in the most complexe plots. In 8 out of the 9 plots the time of the day within the first three hours after sunrise was negatively correlated with the total number of species observed. Cloud coverage, when all observations are considered, negatively influenced the evenness by decreasing the detectabilities of the rarest species. Wind speed had a negative effect on the number of species observed and the species diversity, when all observations are considered, and on the number of species observed inside the plots.
