A standardizised “fruit-diet” for nutritional studies in frugivorous birds

Summary

A semi-synthetic diet is described which is successfully used in nutritional studies in different species of fruit pigeons (Treroninae). Agar (1–2%) is used as a hydrophilic colloid to reach the required water amount of 75–80% in the diet.
