Summary
The procoagulant activity of clotting factors II, V, VIII, XI and XII were compared in freshly drawn blood and stored blood using various containers (glass bottles, plastic bags Biotest and Fenwal). Also the immunological amounts of factors II and VIII were measured. In freshly drawn blood high activities as well as low activities of all factors were found. The observed very high activities of factors II and VIII were associated with normal amounts as determined in the immunological tests. During storage the activity decreased the immunological detectable amounts remaining constant. Preservation of clotting activity was better in plastic bags than in glass bottles.
