Summary
Small pieces of ovalbumin have been implanted intraperitoneally into rats and have been investigated electron microscopically after 21 hours, 2, 4, 5, 6 and 10 days. In the beginning these implants have been covered by a thin layer of monocyts. Later on we found a multilayered envelope of those cells. The monocyts change into phagocytizing cells, which destruct the ovalbumin in lysosomes. After 4 days bipolar cells could be found in the middle layers of cells which changed into typically fibroblasts. At the same time filaments and some fibrils with a typically transversal striation could be observed in the extracellular space. On the 6th and 10th day these fibrils are bundled to parallel fibres. The problems of the differentiation respectively of the transformation and modulation of these cells have been discussed.
