Summary
In 1954 P. and A.Alius, observed a complete peroxydase defect of the neutrophils and monocytes in a 24-year-old woman. The eosinophils lost the reaction after two years instead of after 5 years, as is normal. Bone marrow puncture showed only isolated neutrophil promyelocytes that were peroxydasepositive. These stages normally also give a stronger reaction than the mature segmented neutrophils. Examination of the blood of the whole sib in 1965 confirmed the 1954 finding in the woman. Her parents, 4 children, her husband, a sister and a nice had a normal positive peroxydase reaction.
In 1962Grignaschi and his colleagues determined the family character of the anomaly by demonstrating the peroxydase defect of the neutrophiles and monocytes in 2 siblings. Here, too, all the relatives showed a normal positive peroxydase reaction of the neutrophils. It seems to be a recessive hereditary blood cell anomaly where the carriers are homozygous to which no pathological significance can be attributed. The designation, “Alius-Grignaschi anomaly” is proposed.
