Focal mechanisms in northeastern India and their tectonic implications

Summary

The paper embodies focal mechanism solutions based onP wave data for thirteen earthquakes; nine shallow and four intermediate shocks located in northeastern India. The solutions along the Burmese and Himalayan mountains confirm the existence of thrust faulting and strike-slip faulting. A mechanism solution west of Haflong shows strike-slip faulting and another in the east shows thrust faulting. Four solutions from Tibet show normal faulting with predominant strike-slip motion.
