Gender-related science anxiety: a first binational study

Abstract

An investigation was carried out to ascertain whether science anxiety as measured by a self-reporting instrument was related to gender for groups of American and Danish students aged 17 and up. In both national groups, females scored significantly higher on a variety of science anxiety measures than did males. Science anxiety proved to be also related to general anxiety and to field of study, but not significantly to national group, albeit the Danish group as a whole registered womewhat lower than the American group, and in particular, Danish fermales registered lower than American males.
