Summary
The properties of concentrated solutions of polystyrene have been examined as a function of solvent compatibility. Phase contrast microscopy, differential thermal analysis and visco-elastic measurements support the idea that miscible solvents can give rise to molecular plasticization and hence a truly homogeneous solution while partially miscible solvents result in something more complicated, perhaps a system containing heterogeneities on the molecular level.
