Summary

A study is made of the mechanism of hemolysis by anionic surface-active agents. It is supposed that the primary site of the hemolytic attack by anionic agents is the protein moiety of the red cell membrane at physiological pH. The role of phospholipid release in hemolysis increases as the PH of the medium decreases.
