Superposition of sedimentation and demixing in a centrifugal field

Abstract

The sedimentation of a demixed solution in an ultracentrifugal field is treated. It is shown experimentally for a solution of PS in cyclohexane that a density inversion occurs leading to heterogeneous equilibrium although the mechanical equilibrium is not established.
