Abstract
A description is given of an equipment for measuring the total normal emittance and the angular dependence of the emittance of solids in the temperature range from 1000 K to 3000 K. The emittance is determined by comparing the radiation emitted from the surface of the sample to the radiation emitted from a blackbody. The samples are small disks and are heated in vacuum by an electron gun. The temperature measurement is by a photoelectric special pyrometer in a hole drilled radially in the sample. The measured data are digitally recorded and evaluated by means of a computer program. So it is possible to make systematic measurements in a short time. The error is in the region of 3%. — Experimental results for graphite, molybdenum, tantalum and tungsten are presented.
