Abstract
With an improved experimental set-up we have studied the broadening of Rb Rydberg levels by xenon up to principal quantum numbers as high asn≈100 by means of Doppler-free two-photon spectroscopy and the thermionic detection technique. The inealstic part of the collision cross section tends to decrease slowly withn in the range 50≦n≦100 in agreement with theoretical predictions.
